Tell me about the stone
A unique and textural blend of gray, orange, and yellow, makes these Summer Buff Slate tiles a great addition to any rustic inspired interior design. With their wildly irregular pattern and contrasting colors, they'll add intrigue and vibrancy to your home, while retaining the elegance and classic style of natural stone.
As far as stone goes, slate offers perhaps the best value for money on the market. In particular, Summer Buff has a very reasonable price point but offers the durability and hardwearing attributes of some of the most expensive materials out there. Evidence for this can be seen through slate's regular uses outside of the home. It is often installed as roofing tiles, battling harsh elements to protect the building below.
Even in the cruelest conditions, slate can last for decades without the need for replacement. This is, perhaps in part due to its low porosity, meaning that liquids are unlikely to damage the stone's surface. Despite this, many choose to seal slate tiles upon installation to enhance their coloring and protect against oils and acidic liquids that may stain or etch the tile.
Tell me about the tile's finish
These Summer Buff slates have a natural cleft face. This rugged surface is not the work of a finisher or stone mason but is in fact formed by nature itself. Slate forms in layers, which are readily cleaved along their fault lines to create slabs. A natural cleft face is the texture that is revealed by this process. It is rugged and rough, with abundant grooves and ridges.
A natural cleft face is perfect for those who want a balance of functionality, durability, and style. It offers a high level of slip resistance that is perfect for flooring in all areas of the home, as well as external applications. While smooth surfaces often feel slippery when wet, a natural cleft face has sufficient traction to prevent this.
Furthermore, there is little to no maintenance involved with a natural cleft face. Polished tiles with refined faces can become dull over time and lose their brilliance. But our rugged finish is intentionally irregular, so wear and tear will not impact its design.
These tiles have a gauged back allowing for ease of application.
