  • LARGE FORMAT SANDSTONE TILES DELIVER RAW CHARACTER

Our diverse range of large format sandstone tiles is hard wearing and durable, despite the reputation of sandstone being a soft rock. Its softness is, in fact, one of its biggest style advantages, with its weathering and natural stratification leading to stunning shapes and colors within the stone.

As sandstone is essentially grains of compacted sand cemented together by groundwater minerals, it is no surprise to find beachy, desert colors among the range. Pale gray, beige, yellow, tan, orange, coral and red are all attractive natural shades that you can choose from.

The irregular textures and patterns you will see in our stunning large format sandstone tiles will bring character and a plethora of possibilities to your remodel. Go with a honed or sandblasted tile for a subdued, contemporary aesthetic or embrace the fullness of rustic trends with natural cleft or chiseled finishes. Without a doubt, these textures and shades will allow you to bring a feeling of warmth and wonder into your living spaces.

LARGE FORMAT SANDSTONE TILES HAVE WIDE RANGING USES

If you’ve fallen hard and fast for our range of large format sandstone tiles, you will be spoilt for choice as to how to incorporate their gentle beauty into and around your home. Our sandstone tile options can be used indoors in walls, backsplashes, and flooring; externally, they are a hardy option that can withstand freezing temperatures.

In the kitchen, sandstone makes stunning backsplashes or flooring. The large, golden toned large format tiles glow in natural light, giving your kitchen the feeling of sunlight pouring in. Use a selection of different sized tiles to create a farmhouse-style floor that brings some French chic.

A sandstone backsplash in a bathroom will bring texture and warmth to a room that is quite often a collection of classic lines and angles. A full wall of natural finish large format sandstone tile will give you a bathroom that looks to have been hewn from a rockface, a structural design that works beautifully with existing modern or traditional fixtures.  Sandstone can also be used as bathroom flooring. It can be slippery when wet as with many flooring options, so it is best to choose a tile with an irregular surface for extra traction.

In fact, sandstone tile makes beautiful flooring anywhere in your home, but particularly suits living spaces. Practical and anti-allergenic as with most tiles, sandstone brings a softness and tactility with it that allows it to fit in easily with furnishings and comfortable textures, making no demands for contemporary styling.

Outdoors, our large format sandstone tiles can be used to create gorgeous pathways and patios. There is a shade to suit every style of garden, but it can be a beautiful space to introduce one of our russet or coral shades to make a stunning contrast with foliage and pick up orange, gold, or cream floral hues. Sandstone offers a natural beauty that carries seamlessly through your outdoor spaces, whether through grassy yards or curated Mediterranean rockery gardens, it will bring you long-lasting pleasure.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF LARGE FORMAT SANDSTONE?

One of the biggest advantages of large format sandstone, indeed any large format tile, is the amount of coverage you achieve in relation to the number of joints. Having fewer grout lines makes the tile and grout finish that little bit easier to care for. Visually, fewer breaks between tile creates a less busy look in a room, giving a more restful, carpeted impression.

HOW DO YOU CUT LARGE FORMAT SANDSTONE TILES?

You can either use a bench saw or a hand-held circular saw, although you might need a steady hand for the latter. It is recommended to use a diamond blade to achieve a clean cut with minimal chipping.

Cutting natural stone produces a lot of dust. If using a hand-held angle grinder, wetting the tile to suppress dust isn’t and option, so it is imperative to wear a mask and safety glasses. When using motorized cutting devices, it is always wise to take adequate safety precautions – wear work shoes, safety glasses and gloves, face mask and ear protection.

WHAT’S THE BIGGEST SIZE OF LARGE FORMAT SANDSTONE TILES?

Although our range covers almost any size you could wish for, the 36”x 36” square is the biggest size of large format sandstone tile that we sell. In rectangular shapes, the 24” x 48” is our largest.
