Product Info

Black slate is a classic stone. The richness of its color is deep and intoxicating, the ultimate rugged rock. Its shade is mostly uniform throughout the stone. There may be a slight variation in certain sections but in general, it is pretty reliable. There are no large veins or crystals and it is fine-grained. It is a sturdy example of the rustic, hardy materials that nature produces under the harsh conditions of slate formation.

Slate is a geologically metamorphic rock. It naturally forms into sheets because of the way it is created. Layers of sediment, clay and other volcanic minerals are deposited on top of one another. Under certain heat and pressure conditions, they are cemented to form a solid, hardened slate. It can naturally be cleaved into slabs of rock along its fault lines which lends itself to tiles beautifully.

In general, slate is a hard rock, durable and long-lasting. For this reason, it is ideal for use on flooring throughout the home. It creates tough kitchen floors made for heavy use and regular spillages. It is a naturally porous stone, just like most natural materials, and therefore must be sealed to protect it against moisture and staining. However, it is incredibly hardwearing once this process has been undertaken.

This tile comes with a natural cleft finish. This is simply created by cleaving the stone along its natural layers. The stone is shaped to a flat surface but retains the grooves and ridges that give it a rugged look.

It's a great finish in term of design, the texture gives the tile depth, meaning this single toned stone has a rustic, earthy element to it. But the benefits don't stop there. It's also a highly practical solution because of its durability and traction. Whereas a more high-maintenance finish requires regular upkeep to ensure it looks its best, a natural cleft face is not easily worn down. In years to come, it will still look as great as the day it was laid.

The textured surface of this tile has enough grip to prevent skids and falls, making it ideal for use in kitchens, bathrooms, and hallways.

Slate creates a natural, traditional interior with no problem at all. Its texture works beautifully with wooden cabinets and furniture for a country-style decor. But its matte black face also works great when trying to achieve a modern look. Contrast it with white gloss cabinets and metallic accents for that up-to-the-minute look everyone is searching for. It's incredibly design-versatile, with the practicality and durability to match. Ideal for those who require functionality, as well as a beautiful environment.
