IS 36 x 36 A SQUARE TILE?

A 36 x 36 tile is a square tile. Tile sizes are given in length and width meaning identical measurements are squares, and differing lengths and widths are a rectangular tile. We also offer some of our large format tiles in squares of 12x12, 16x16, 18x18, 30x30, 31x31, 36x36, 39x39, 48x48 and 60x60.

HOW DO YOU LAY 36 x 36 TILES?

When laying any of our large format tiles, including 36 x 36, we recommend using suction cups for lifting and maneuvering, as carrying tile of these sizes is heavy and unwieldy, and can easily be dropped.

The tiling process itself is similar to laying any other size tile, with the exceptions of using stronger, thicker adhesive and longer drying times.

Prepare the surface to remove as many irregularities as possible and spread a layer of mortar. Use a wide notch trowel to create ridges as these help the tile bond well. Spread mortar onto the back of the tile in a process known as back-buttering. This ensures excellent coverage and therefore a strong bond between tile and surface as the mortar dries and shrinks back. It is important to leave the tile undisturbed for as long as possible. Ideally, leave to drive for 36-48 hours and avoid walking on it during this time. Once the tile is grouted, avoid any heavy traffic on the tile for up to a week.
