CAN YOU USE 48 x 48 PORCELAIN TILES IN THE BATHROOM?

48 x 48 porcelain tiles can absolutely be used in the bathroom. Porcelain is a strong, dense non-porous material making it a great choice for wet areas as the tile won’t encourage the growth of mold. Any finish can be used on the walls but if you are choosing flooring for a bathroom or wet room, choose an option like honed tile which will be less slippery when wet.

HOW DO YOU LAY 48 x 48 FLOOR TILES? 

Large format tiles are laid in a similar way to smaller tiles only you may want to consider a sturdy cement-based adhesive. Tiles such as the 48 x 48 floor tiles can be difficult to maneuver alone due to their size and weight. It is best to have someone help you and to use suction cups to lift the tiles into place. 

The most important thing is to secure a strong bond between the wall or floor and the tile. Lay a good coat of adhesive onto the prepared surface and comb through with a notched edge trowel. Butter the back of the tile with the same adhesive and lift into place. Press firmly enough for the ridges in the adhesive to collapse then position spacers between tiles to ensure you achieve even gaps. When all the tiles have been laid, leave for up to two days to dry before grouting.
