HOW TO INSTALL VINYL PLANK FLOORING WITH A CLICK LOCK SYSTEM

Depending on which of our vinyl plank flooring options you choose, you’ll find that the installation methods vary. If you’re wondering how to install vinyl plank flooring with a click lock system, you’re sure to be delighted by how easy the process is. 

There is no need for any glue or adhesive. The planks simply line up and click into position with a tap of a rubber mallet. As long as you take the time to ensure that the planks are at the correct angle, you’ll have no difficulties at all. 

HOW TO INSTALL VINYL PLANK FLOORING WITH AN ADHESIVE OR GLUE DOWN SYSTEM

We also have self-adhesive vinyl plank flooring which also requires no separate adhesive. The plank comes with a ready-prepared self-adhesive backing so, once you’ve chosen the spot to lay your plank, you just remove the backing and place the plank in position. 

For glue down planks, you will need to choose an acrylic-based adhesive to hold your flooring in place. Apply the adhesive to your prepared surface using a trowel, taking care to ensure the adhesive is applied at an angle of 45 degrees. You must leave the glue for around 45-90 minutes, or until it becomes tacky and its color changes. Once this has happened, you can start laying your vinyl planks in your desired position.

In all cases of vinyl flooring installation, whether you’re laying planks, sheets, or tiles, the key is to ensure that the surface has been properly prepared. Make sure that it is clean and free from any substances that could prevent the adhesive from working correctly. Make sure that the surface is even too so your final result isn’t bumpy and unattractive. 

HOW TO REMOVE VINYL FLOORING 

Removing vinyl flooring can be achieved with a heat gun. Simply remove the baseboards from the edge of your vinyl floor and then use the heat gun on a low temperature setting to melt the adhesive between the flooring and the surface of the substrate. The flooring should eventually come free.

The most attractive effect when staggering vinyl plank flooring can be achieved by ensuring that each plank is a minimum of 6” – 8” away from nearest seam in the previous row. You can do this by scoring and snapping the planks. 

WHICH DIRECTION TO LAY VINYL PLANK FLOORING

In most cases, the best direction to lay your vinyl plank flooring is the same way as the room’s main light source and in line with your most used entrance to the space. If you have multiple options to pick from, it makes sense to opt for the one that offers you the simplest installation solution. 

DO YOU NEED UNDERLAYMENT FOR VINYL PLANK FLOORING?

As long as you have a smooth surface to install your vinyl plank flooring on, you won’t always need to use an underlayment. Some products come with underlayment already applied for your convenience. If you want extra insulation, or if your floor is uneven, you should apply an underlayer however.
