LARGE FORMAT TILE COUNTERTOPS FOR THE KITCHEN

Large format tile countertops are a stylish way to modernize kitchens and bathrooms, either as part of a complete remodel or as a refresh and replacement. Tile countertops offer something a little bit different to the usual wood and stone effect laminate options, giving the impression of sturdiness and longevity. Whether made from porcelain or natural stone, they are certainly durable and hold up to a good degree of wear and tear.

Tiled countertops have been popular for many years, in the standard sizes, with stone and stone-effect tiles making delightful rustic countertops for kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms. What a large format tile countertop succeeds in doing is taking all the same practical benefits and rendering them in a style that is crisp and succinct, ultra-modern whether the styling is traditional or contemporary.

Depending on the material you choose, a large format tile countertop can be versatile in its look depending on the material, the finish, and the edging you choose. You can keep marble in with the latest trends with a sleek waterfall edge countertop or give it a more traditional feel with an ornate bullnose.

Here at Stone & Tile we are proud to bring you an amazing selection to choose from. Enjoy browsing porcelain, ceramic, cement, marble, travertine, limestone, and granite among others, available in glazed and unglazed options.

LARGE FORMAT TILE KITCHEN COUNTERTOP – ELEGANT FOCUS

Kitchens are luxurious as well as practical spaces, which is why a large format tile kitchen countertop can be just the right choice for a fusion of design and functionality. Whether you are opting for one of our immense ranges of stone or porcelain, a large format tile countertop will provide a degree of stain and heat resistance, an easy to clean surface, and style in absolute bucket loads. Consider using a lighter-colored tile in a matte finish to minimize the appearance of any scratches.

This slick contemporary styling can still hold its own in traditional areas. Take an on-trend shaker kitchen and add a large format kitchen countertop in marble, limestone or a stone-look porcelain and you have at once an impression of traditional homeliness but clean lines and the twist of modernity they bring.

A white and smoky gray waterfall edge marble worktop can look striking against deep colored cabinetry, and can pop all the more when coupled with a matching backsplash. This marriage of two structural elements promotes flow and is a generally restful aesthetic in what can be a high-traffic, busy space.

LARGE FORMAT PORCELAIN COUNTERTOPS – EXPANSIVE CHOICES

Porcelain is an excellent choice for countertops around the home. Its low porosity means that it won’t readily absorb liquid from spills and splashes that can lead to staining. It is heat resistant, which is ideal in kitchens for countertops and backsplashes, and in bathrooms, porcelain’s moisture resistance means it is less likely to encourage the growth of mold or mildew in the moist, steamy conditions over time.

Typically, porcelain is less expensive than stone, and lighter weight, meaning you can bring all the opulence and charm of marble, travertine and other natural stones, to your décor, even if there are load constraints with your walls or cabinetry.

Porcelain is a dense material and the way it is made, means that it is a little harder than stone. As such it will withstand scratches a little better. Although to protect the worktop and glaze, cutting should only ever be done on a chopping board. In this respect you need to be judicious, thinking about how you use those spaces and what would be the best fit for you.

A porcelain countertop in a bathroom can be just the thing you need to elevate a simple scheme. Make a quick upgrade to an all-white bathroom scheme by introducing a new large format porcelain countertop in a marble-look tile for a touch or extravagance, or slate-look tile for a more rugged, natural style focus. If you are remodeling the full bathroom, thanks to the flexibility of applications most of our tiles provide, you can echo the countertop of your choice in the shower or wall backsplash, or flooring.

HOW BIG IS THE LARGEST LARGE FORMAT TILE COUNTERTOP OPTION?

Our largest format tile countertop option is 48” x110”, but we have others more commonly available in 48 x 48 or, 24 x 48, with an excellent selection in these sizes. We also have a vast range of matching and complementary bullnose tiles to edge your countertops for a perfect finish.

ARE LARGE FORMAT PORCELAIN COUNTERTOPS GOOD FOR KITCHENS?

Large format porcelain countertops are great for kitchens. They are highly durable and less resistant to wear and tear than other materials. They offer you an easy to clean, easy to maintain surface that keeps your food preparation surfaces pristine and hygienic. They are also a sustainable product.

HOW DO YOU INSTALL LARGE FORMAT TILE COUNTERTOPS?

Any tile countertop needs a solid substrate that will support the weight of the tile and provide a completely flat surface with no weak spots that would make it vulnerable to cracking and breaking. Decide what type of tile you are using as the substructure needs to be able to support the weight of whatever you choose. A double layer of plywood topped with a backboard will provide you with a sturdy, level surface.

To trim the countertop, you can make a solid wood edging that can be stained, or you can finish off the edges with bullnose tiles. Waterfall edges for natural stone is also an option.

Prepare your tile layout. Apply an even layer of adhesive and affix the tiles, using spacers to create your desired joint width. If using a wood edging, use a caulk between the wood and the outer edges of the tiles so that there is flexibility of movement as materials can expand and contract. Leave the tile to set for a couple of days and then grout.
