These are slightly wider joints of flexible sealant like silicone caulk that absorb the pressure of these types of movements within the tiles.

For tiled balconies, patios, and porches, bear in mind that you want water to drain away from the building to avoid ingress during heavy rainfall. This can be achieved by installing a waterproof membrane, installing flashing, and laying the tile at a quarter inch incline away from the property.
