CAN YOU STEAM CLEAN LIMESTONE?

Although some people want to steam clean limestone floors, it isn’t really a good idea. As limestone is porous, it will absorb the moisture produced by a steam cleaner if you use one regularly, and this could cause damage in the long run. If you have applied a sealant to your limestone flooring, using super hot steam can cause damage to the sealant too, allowing moisture to get into your flooring.

HOW TO SEAL A LIMESTONE FLOOR

You can seal a limestone floor by using one of the commercially available sealant products. The first step is to ensure the floor surface is clean and completely free of any grime or grease before you apply the sealant. The next step is to use a foam paintbrush to apply your sealant, taking care to cover the edges of the tiles. Allow the sealant to seep into the tiles for ten minutes, then buff them using circular movements with a soft cloth. This will remove any unabsorbed sealant, leaving a smooth, dry finish.

IS LIMESTONE FLOORING DURABLE?

While limestone flooring seems to be manufactured from “soft” stone, this term is relative. While limestone is softer than granite and marble, when it comes to durability, limestone flooring is very resilient and strong. It is, therefore, able to withstand regular use.
