If you're looking for clean-lines and simple patterns in a natural stone, Dark Basalt is ideal. Its dark gray color is consistent throughout, the perfect uniformity for creating a chic, understated interior design. The tile's surface is smooth, but with minute pits and holes accentuating its natural stone effect. If you're looking for the ultimate in simplicity and class, Dark Basalt is the perfect natural stone for you.
Similar in geology to Granite, Basalt is an igneous rock formed when searing hot magma reaches the earth's surface and quickly cools. This rapid cooling process creates tiny crystals within the stone that result in a mid-sized grain throughout.
Its tiny bubbles and pores mean the stone is naturally moisture absorbent, although to a lesser degree than its sedimentary and metamorphic cousins. A simple sealant will protect the surface of the stone from water and stains, making it durable enough for high-traffic areas of the home.
This Dark Basalt has a flamed and waterjet finish. It is ideal for those wanting a natural look for their tiles. The surface of the stone is initially heated to an extremely high temperature causing the little crystals on the surface of the tile to split. The effect is a slightly textured, soft-toned Basalt. The flaming process brings out a range of hidden tones, which are softly highlighted. Whilst it is usually a consistent gray color, Dark Basalt can have some evidence of coppery red tones.
The waterjet process involves blasting high pressured water at the stone, giving the effect of a tile that has blasted by rain over a period of time. This creates a slightly uneven texture, giving the tile more traction. It makes it ideal for areas of the home with a high footfall, as the finish is not worn-down overtime, and is not slippery underfoot.
A beautifully simple Dark Basalt create a super-chic and modern design. It's extremely versatile, with the potential to pair with almost any design, from the bright and bold, to the subtle and understated.
Create gorgeously natural bathrooms with a bright modern suite and accents of wood and stone. Team it with matte kitchen cabinets and a dark granite counter for a luxury designer feel. Add mid-century planters and a hint of color with a 60's style blind for a unique take on a design which displays Dark Basalt's variable style.
