    • Reducer Molding: Why Install It?

    When you’re selecting new flooring, you are focused on the styles that accentuate your home. An equally important element is how your new flooring will transition into other flooring types in your home. Choosing and installing the right transition pieces can make the difference between a good floor installation and a great one. Transitions protect the edges of your flooring from wear, tear, and fraying.

    Reducer moldings are especially important because they prevent people from tripping at places where floor coverings of different thicknesses meet. Reducer transitions use a rounded effect to form a curve from tall flooring to shorter flooring. For minor height differences, the reducer may have an even arc shape. For more pronounced height differences, a reducer may have a ramp shape with a flat top that curves down toward the shorter flooring.

    Floor Reducer Molding

    Floor reducer molding is typically used as a transition piece for floorings that are thin, such as vinyl laminates. Floor reducer molding will provide a seamless look when transitioning between flooring surfaces providing a beautiful finished look to any room in your home. Floor reducers are typically used between rooms or entryways and can be installed over most existing surfaces, including tile, wood, concrete, and vinyl. They are 100% waterproof and are easy to clean and maintain.

    Vinyl Reducer Molding

    Vinyl reducer molding may be used to bridge a vinyl room to a room that has wood flooring. Vinyl reducer molding can be installed in the space where two different floors meet. You can use them when going from a thick tile down to a laminate or laminate down to vinyl or vinyl down to the concrete.

    In addition to transitioning between different floors, vinyl reducer molding can be a good choice to use when a floor just ends, not meeting up with anything else. They can be installed at doorways, fireplaces, and sliding glass doors where no track sticks up above the floor level. In these places, the reducers will protect what would otherwise be exposed flooring edges from damage.
