Product Info

Carioca Gold is a stunning blend of rusty reds and browns blended with more neutral, creamy golds. It is a rugged looking, earthy stone that seems antique and beautifully aged from the word go. It is a highly irregular stone, with light and dark patches which culminate in a mottled pattern. Some tiles are red, others are just a golden beige, but the overall effect is a warm-toned, natural stone.

When clay and other minerals are layered deep under the earth's surface and subjected to a specific set of temperature and pressure requirements, slate is formed. It hardens into a solid stone, retaining its layered formation. This means it is easily cleaved along these lines, creating flat slabs of rock which are ideal for tiles.

Slate is the perfect stone for use in parts where durability is required, specifically high-traffic areas around the household and exterior applications. It is one of the hardest stones on the market and is incredibly scratch and crack resistant. Once it has been sealed with a stone protectant, it is moisture resistant and is suitable for bathroom applications as well as for garden patios and porches.

Because slate is so easily cleaved along its natural fault lines, it can be left with a natural cleft face. This means a level tile is achieved, but the ridges and grooves created in the stone's formation process are retained. The result is a tile with texture.

This is the perfect finish for those who require a practical tiling solution, as well as beautiful design. The naturally bumpy surface creates enough grip that slips and trips are kept to a minimum. Even while the tile is wet, there is still enough traction that the surface does not feel slippery.

The riven surface is also incredibly durable. Some finishes can become dull over a period of time if not maintained. But a natural cleft face is already rugged and imperfect, so heavy footfall or subjection to the elements will only add to the stone's authenticity.

Finally, this tile has a gauged back. This ensures ease of installation and achieves a more level surface. Each tile is of a similar thickness and although there might be some variation, they are ideal for both interior and exterior applications.

If you're looking for a slate with added design flair, Carioca Gold is a great option. Its bold coloring looks beautiful in a country house kitchen and nature-inspired bathroom. Complement its origins with other natural materials like wood and potted plants for a wholesome interior design.

Create a warm and inviting exterior with a Carioca Gold front porch or patio, or turn up the heat by building a tiled slate fire pit.
