HOW TO TILE A BACKSPLASH

Tiling your backsplash needn’t be difficult. In fact, since many backsplashes are quite small in size, they can be completed rather rapidly. The most important thing is to ensure that the wall you will be applying the tiles too is clean, dry, and completely free from any blemishes. Apply adhesive to the wall, align the tiles correctly, then press the first one down firmly. Repeat with the remaining tiles and allow to fully dry before applying the grout to the joints.

HOW TO REMOVE TILE BACKSPLASH

You have several options when it comes to removing tile backsplash. For smaller backsplashes, you can use a chisel to prise the tile off the wall, but for larger projects, an angle grinder or oscillating tool may be a better choice.

CAN YOU PAINT TILE BACKSPLASH?

Depending on the type of tile backsplash you’ve chosen, you may be able to paint it. Ceramic tiles, for example, can be painted, although you’ll need to ensure that you’ve chosen the correct paint. Certain types of tiles will present more problems when it comes to covering them with a coat of paint. Textured tiles, for example, are hard to paint well. HOW TO GROUT TILE BACKSPLASH

When your tile backsplash’s adhesive has completely dried, you can start to grout it to protect its joints from moisture and dirt ingress. You simply apply the grout to the surface of the tiles, making sure that you take the time to press it firmly into the joints. Allow to dry for up to 36 hours or until completely dry to the touch before using a damp cloth to wipe away any excess from the surface of the backsplash.

HOW TO INSTALL MOSAIC TILE BACKSPLASH

Most types of mosaic tile backsplash feature a mesh backing, which makes them especially easy to install. You simply need to ensure that your chosen surface is free from any bumps and is completely dry and clean. Apply a flexible adhesive then ensure your tile is correctly aligned before pressing the first one down onto the adhesive. Repeat with the remaining tiles and allow to fully dry.

HOW TO CUT GLASS TILE BACKSPLASH

A wet saw represents the best way for you to cut a glass tile backsplash. Due to its fragile and brittle nature, it can be all too easy to damage glass tiles when cutting them, resulting in shattering or obvious imperfections in the surface. A wet saw ensures that the blade has sufficient lubrication to protect the cut and ensure a more flawless finish.

HOW TO FINISH TILE BACKSPLASH EDGES

There are several ways to finish tile backsplash edges. You can simply caulk the edges and leave them as they are for a modern, minimalistic look. Alternatively, you can apply rail moldings or metal edging for a more complete look.
