Large format pavers are an excellent choice for flooring in large rooms. Hard-wearing and easy to maintain, they are a wonderful option for a busy home that doesn’t want to compromise on style.

The main advantage of the large format pavers is that they are laid close together and have fewer joints. This creates a real sense of flow over the floor space, which is ideal in any room but especially in open plan living, where a uniform flooring choice can unite kitchen, dining and living spaces.

LARGE FORMAT PAVER PATTERNS – BRINGING STYLE TO ALL YOUR SPACES

Although our pavers come in substantial sizes, there are still a host of attractive ways to lay your slabs for maximum visual pleasure. Distinguished as either linear or modular, linear patterns arrange tiles in a line and appear more regular, while modular patterns open up a host of stunning irregular patchwork or hopscotch-type layouts. Experimenting with design can add extra appeal to the paver of your choice.

Large format paver patterns can be as imaginative as smaller tiles, simply on a larger scale. Rectangular slabs such as our 30”x 60” can be arranged in a herringbone pattern, much the same as our subway tiles, and look particularly convincing in our wood grain-look large format porcelain tiles.

For a mixed size patchwork effect, use different sizes in the same stone for an attractive, homogenous look with a special twist. All you need to do is choose sizes that share the same ratio, for example, 12”x24”, 24”x24” and 24”x36”. Following this principle with any starting size guarantees a neat, balanced arrangement.

Our large format concrete-look pavers are made from porcelain with a concrete style finish, guaranteeing you all the raw industrial charm of real concrete but without the porosity and none of the weight. Available in a range of shades embracing the neutral palette, there is a beige, gray or ivory hue to suit your design.

HOW TO INSTALL LARGE FORMAT PAVER STONE

If you are installing pavers indoors, it is imperative that the flooring is level. Many people opt to have a concrete screed to ensure the floor is as level as can be. It can take several weeks for concrete to dry out thoroughly. Then the slabs can be laid in much the same way as smaller tile. Use a heavy-duty adhesive on the concrete and butter the back of the slab before laying. This ensures maximum coverage and a strong bond.

DO LARGE PAVERS NEED SAND?

If you are laying a patio with large format pavers, it is advisable to lay them on sand. A bed of sand is a stabilizing foundation that helps the pavers remain level and not sink or shift over time. However, it is also recommended to use a bed of crushed stone or gravel beneath the layer of sand. This provides excellent drainage, which can avoid heave caused by fluctuations in groundwater and frosts.

WHAT IS THE STRONGEST PAVER PATTERN?

A herringbone pattern is the strongest paver pattern you can choose. Not only is the zigzag pattern highly decorative, but in this arrangement, each paver is effectively held in place by the six pavers placed around it. Tightly interlocked in this way, the pavers can handle substantial weight. It is a formation favored for driveways and can easily withstand heavy outdoor grills and solid patio furniture.
